Indian River citrus: Super-sweet grapefruit and oranges grown on the banks of the Indian River in Central Florida and sold from the backs of trucks and at roadside stands along Florida’s highways.
Key lime pie: In pre-railroad days, the Keys isolation made fresh milk hard to come by. Canned sweetened condensed milk was readily available though, and by combining it with acidic Key lime juice and eggs, it curdled into custard. Key lime pies were probably made with pie crusts at first, but Graham cracker crust is now the standard. A Key lime pie should not be dyed green! It is naturally deep yellow in color.
