There are 400 miles left of Route 66 in the state. This continuous section of The Mother Road is longer than in any other state.
After the Trail of Tears, the government again pushed Native Americans off of their lands and awarded it to white settlers. The settlers set up tent camps to stake their claims in 1889, technically before they were supposed to, and earned the nickname “Sooner.”
Roger Miller, Will Rogers, Garth Brooks, Woody Guthrie, the Flaming Lips and Hanson are all from Oklahoma.
