The original Dodge City Front Street buildings were bulldozed as they had become an eyesore to down members. They were replaced by parking lots and streets. The new Dodge City is not a historic replica, but a movie set-type place.
We stayed at a lovely state park which was land donated by a family who homesteaded in the canyon in the late 1800s. It was an oasis on an otherwise “level” part of the west of the state.
The public (and free) pool in Garden City is the size of 2.5 football fields. The day it’s drained for the winter, the local zoo elephants are allowed to play in it.
