North Dakota is the least-visited state in the union.
Several times in the last century and in 2001, the state tried to get Congress to pass a law removing “North” from its name. The belief is that future tourists will look upon it more favorably.
There are over 2,000 prairie churches in North Dakota, listed on the Trust for Historic Preservation’s most endangered historic places list. Many of them are now vacant and located in small towns that are dwindling in population.
